Best Cabbage Rolls



Time: 1-1/2 Hrs.

Ingredients (One)

1-1/2 lbs. ground chicken
or turkey tin mushroom
stems and pieces

1 egg
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 lb. ground pork
1 tsp. prepared mustard
2 garlic cloves shredded
1/3 shredded green pepper
1/2 cup shredded celery
1/2 cup shredded onion
1/2 tsp. dry thyme leaf
1 large crinkly cabbage
1/2 tsp. dry basil leaf
1 cup cooked rice
1/4 cup ketchup


Ingredients (two)


(Added To Pan)
1 large can of sauerkraut
Sliced onions

1 large can diced
tomatoes
1 can tomato soup
Shredded cheese


Mix all ingredients (One)
together and
you are ready to start
making cabbage
rolls

Remove leaves from the
head, slice a
layer off the leaf rib so
that it is more
flexible

Blanche the crinkly cabbage
e a few leaves at a time,
in a covered container
with 1/4 cup water,
in the microwave 4-5
minutes

Each medium size leaf
will make one cabbage
roll, a large leaf may
be cut in half to make
two cabbage rolls

Place some mixed
ingredients into the
center of the leaf and
fold the leaf from
four sides to make
a cabbage roll

Put a layer of onions
and sauerkraut on
the bottom of a roasting
Pan.

Turn each cabbage roll
over and place in the
roasting pan, folded
side down

Place another layer of
onions and sauerkraut
over the cabbage rolls

Mix one large can of
diced tomatoes with
one can of tomato
soup and pour over
everything

Cook with lid on and in
the oven at 325
degrees F for 1 3/4 hrs.

Take out, let cool awhile
and then place in the
fridge overnight

Next day before serving,
cook at 325 degrees
Fahrenheit for two more
hours.

Cover with a layer of
grated cheese and
place in oven to melt

Remove from oven and
let sit for awhile and
then serve

Yummy!




Alternate Method
Preparing Cabbage rolls



Day 1

In large bowl mix fresh
ground meat
(not frozen and thawed)
with all ingredients,
except tomato soup, diced
tomatoes, sliced onions
and sauerkraut.
Store this mixture
overnight in fridge.
This melds the flavors.

Day 2

Separate and scald crinkle
cabbage.
Cool a bit and make cabbage
rolls.

Place them on a wax paper
lined cookie sheet. Leave
a bit of space between
them.
Freeze solid.

When frozen place in food
safe plastic bags, withdraw
excess air with a drinking
straw. Seal and put into
the freezer.

Day before you want to
serve.

Arrange in large pan as
described above, cook for
two hours at 325 degrees
Fahrenheit.

You could also let them
thaw a bit, before cooking.
Cool and refrigerate.

Serving Day.

Cook for another 2 hours
at 325 degrees Fahrenheit,
before serving and
sprinkle with shredded
cheese on top.

Be careful, the cheese
is hot!

Option

For an even more flavorful
cabbage roll, use chicken
and pork sausage.

Empty the contents of each
link and use as you
would ground chicken
and pork.
